The universal template: tank · damage · support
Because combat is automatic, a Task Bar Hero party lives or dies on roles, not micro. Almost every good comp is the same shape:
- Tank — holds the front so your damage dealer survives. Almost always the Knight.
- Damage — the win condition. Hunter (paid) or Sorcerer (free AoE).
- Support — keeps the party alive and buffs damage. The Priest (free DLC).
Remember you field up to three heroes, and the slots come from the Rune of Command — not from owning classes. Class strengths are ranked on the class tier list; this page is about putting them together.

Best overall — Knight + Hunter + Priest
If you own the Hunter DLC, this is the strongest party in the game. The Knight tanks, the Hunter brings the highest damage ceiling (elemental bolts that also hit groups), and the Priest keeps both alive while buffing their damage. Every role is covered by the best class for it. Gear focus: survivability on the Knight, attack/crit/attack-speed on the Hunter, cooldown reduction/healing on the Priest.
Best free team — Knight + Sorcerer + Priest
The strongest party that costs nothing (the Priest is a free DLC — claim it). The Sorcerer replaces the Hunter as your damage, trading single-target ceiling for free AoE pack clear. It's a little slower on tough bosses but it clears all content comfortably. This is the team most players should build first. Gear focus: tank stats on the Knight, attack/attack-speed on the Sorcerer, cooldown/healing on the Priest.
Early game — Knight + Ranger (until your 3rd slot)
Before you've bought the Rune of Command for slots two and three, just run whatever two heroes you have — usually Knight + Ranger for a tank plus reliable ranged damage. Don't overthink it; your priority in this window is funnelling gold into hero slots so you can field a full trio. See the beginner guide for the early-game order.
AFK / idle farming — survivability first
For a team you leave running in the taskbar, survival beats spikes. Knight + Sorcerer + Priest is ideal: the Priest's sustain means the party won't wipe while you're away, and the Sorcerer's AoE keeps clears flowing for chest income. Lean the gear toward defense and healing so the team is self-sufficient, and pair it with Far North auto-open so chests open themselves. More on the loop in how the game works.
Gold / market farming — stack speed and drops
Same free trio, but built to farm fast: prioritise attack speed and drop-rate affixes so you clear a comfortable stage as quickly and as often as possible. Volume of chests is what feeds gold and sellable gear. Run it on a stage you crush, not the hardest one you can barely beat. Turn the loot into income with the Steam market guide, and farm soul stones (they sell well) via the bosses guide.
Boss pushing — concentrate the damage
To break through a difficulty wall, you want raw single-target damage: Knight + Hunter + Priest with gear stacked on the Hunter (crit and attack). The Knight buys time, the Priest keeps the Hunter alive, and the Hunter deletes the boss. If you're free, the Sorcerer can do it too — just expect it to take longer on single targets.
What if I'm missing a piece?
- No Priest yet? Claim it — it's free. Until then, run two damage dealers behind the Knight and over-invest in defensive gear and any lifesteal you find.
- No Hunter (free player)? The Sorcerer is your damage core; you lose nothing essential, just some boss speed.
- Own Slayer? It can replace a damage slot, but it overlaps the Knight's melee role — most teams prefer ranged damage (Hunter/Sorcerer) for safety.
FAQ
What is the best team in Task Bar Hero?
With DLC: Knight + Hunter + Priest. Free: Knight + Sorcerer + Priest. Both cover tank, damage and support.
What's the best free team?
Knight + Sorcerer + Priest (the Priest is a free DLC). It clears all content, just slower than a Hunter team on bosses.
How many heroes can I field?
Up to three, unlocked via the Rune of Command — not by owning classes.
Should I run two damage dealers?
Only before you have the Priest. Once you do, a healer almost always beats a second DPS for a hands-off idle game.
