Task Bar Hero Knight Build & Guide

The Knight is the best free hero in the game and the one character almost everyone should build first. Here's why it's S-tier, the exact stat and gear priority for a tank/bruiser build, how to play it, and the teams it anchors.

Why the Knight is S-tier

The Knight is a starter class, costs nothing, and never falls off. It does two jobs at once: it soaks damage on the front line and deals respectable melee damage, so it's never a dead slot. In an auto-battler where your party has to survive long AFK sessions without you, a durable hero that also contributes damage is exactly what you want. If you only ever fully gear one character, make it this one.

Stat & affix priority

Build the Knight as a tank first, damage second — it needs to hold the front so your squishier damage dealers stay alive.

PriorityStatsWhy
1HP, Armor / DefenseSurvive the front line through long fights.
2Attack, Attack SpeedAdd damage once it's tanky enough to stand still.
3Block, LifestealSelf-sustain so it needs less healer attention.
4CritNice extra damage, but not at the cost of survivability.
Rule of thumb

Gear the Knight until it comfortably survives your current stage, then pivot every remaining slot into attack and attack speed. A Knight that dies is worthless; a Knight that lives is free damage on top of its tanking.

How to play it

There's no micro — the Knight auto-fights up front. Your job is to keep it the sturdiest member of the party and spend its skill points every level (don't hoard them). Lean its skill choices toward its defensive and steady-damage options so it holds aggro and stays alive. Because it's so self-sufficient, the Knight is also the safest hero to leave running in the taskbar for idle farming.

Best teams for the Knight

The Knight is the anchor of essentially every good comp — it's the tank slot in the tank/damage/support template:

  • Best overall: Knight + Hunter + Priest (DLC).
  • Best free: Knight + Sorcerer + Priest.

Full reasoning and more situational comps are on the best team page. Remember a three-hero party needs the Rune of Command for its extra slots.

Early vs. late game

Open with the Knight — it's the lowest-risk start. Unlike some heroes that need investment to come online, the Knight is strong immediately and simply scales with gear. It stays a core member from your first stage to the hardest difficulties, so gear invested in it is never wasted.
